Dear SPC Parents,

I want to highlight a few important dates beginning with tomorrow through next Friday before we leave for the Christmas Break.

Sunday, December 15th – Family Mass Prepared by the 5th Grade Students
9:00 a.m. Holy Family Chapel

Monday, December 16th - Advent Reconciliation 3rd and 4th Grade

Monday, December 16th – Preschool through Kindergarten Christmas Program
Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. and the show begins promptly at 10:00 a.m.

Wednesday, December 18th – Grades 1-5 Christmas Program, The Legends of the Holy Night
6:00 p.m.

Friday, December 20th – All School Christmas Mass 2:00 p.m.
The students are participating in Los Posadas and will process into church at 1:50 p.m. I encourage you to enter church early, as this is truly a beautiful procession and Mass.

I am writing this newsletter on my way to rural Arkansas! Father Britto, Adrienne Timm and I are traveling with Catholic Extension to visit St. Luke’s in Warren Arkansas. We are only gone today until tomorrow afternoon so it is a quick trip!  I am looking forward to seeing first hand the results of our 2019 Lenten Mission. The mostly Central American (Mexican and Guatemalan) community of St. Luke Church had been worshipping in a very small chapel that they have outgrown. Parishioners described having children “stacked two or three” on a lap, with other people spilling out the back of the church (which lacks parking) on Sundays. With your generosity, Catholic Extension and the Diocese of Little Rock, the community purchased an old farmers’ co-op and have transformed it into a beautiful new church that will be their new home. Members of this small community in Southeast Arkansas work in the lumber industry as well as other forms of agriculture. Some have lived here for fifteen years or more while others have arrived more recently. We will meet parishioners at the old church before heading a mile away to the new one. Fr. Eddie D'Almeida, the pastor, will concelebrate with Fr. Britto.  I look forward to sharing about my experience when I return.

Here is another article about the renovation.

Thank you to all of our families who participated in Adopt-A-Family! We are pleased to report that over 98% of the presents were claimed! Thanks to the generous monetary donations, we will be able to fill those gaps however, if you are still interested in participating, we are accepting gifts until Friday.

Please see more details and important information below! Our school staff, teachers, and parent volunteers are always working and planning special events for the students and the parents. Please take a few moments to read the flyers and information so you stay as informed as possible.

Thank you!

Peace,

Dr. Erika Mickelburgh
Principal
