Dear SPC Families,

I hope you are all going to have a relaxing holiday weekend! After all excitement of pig kissing and school picture day this week, I know that I am looking forward to the holiday! I am looking forward to seeing many of you at Harp and Fiddle in the next two weeks; it will be a nice time to meet more families from your child's grade. We are gearing up for the return of Trivia Night on November 5th; see below for information about the  evening. It is time to gather your team and reserve your babysitters for a very fun night at SPC, supporting our Endowment!

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES:
Please look for an email from the school tomorrow to sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences with your child's teacher. This year we are offering a choice to either meet in person or via Zoom for the conference.

OCTOBER 15 - LAST DAY TO WEAR SHORTS:
Reminder that next Friday, October 15th, is the last day to wear shorts to school until next spring.

TIK TOK CHALLENGES:
Let me preface my comments by saying that I don't think any students or alumni of SPC would ever engage in the ridiculous and often criminal "tik tok challenges" that are receiving national media attention. However, I do think this is an opportunity to have a conversation with our children about the appropriate use of social media. Contrary to the articles below, our faculty is not on "alert," and for that, I am grateful. However, my concern is simply that our children may be exposed to videos of these horrible incidents when they are on tik tok. This is a learning opportunity for our children; just because people think things are "funny" doesn't make it right or appropriate. Please have some conversations at home about responsibility and respect when viewing social media.

SAVE THE DATE: All parents should attend this VERY insightful Zoom regarding cyber safety even if your child doesn't have a phone yet!

The objective is to educate parents on the dangers their children face every day in their online life and provide them with strategies to parent in this hyper-digital age.

National Junior Honor Society and Uncle Pete's Ministry Tuesday October 12th

NJHS is sponsoring Uncle Pete's Ministry this year. Uncle Pete's Ministry is an organization where we help pack and send out lunches to homeless people all over Chicago. On Tuesday, October 12th, every student should bring home 2 paper bags with a slip of paper saying what to pack.

NJHS members will be collecting the packed lunches the morning of Friday, October 15th. If you would like to make more lunches, then you can use plastic grocery bags. Here is a reminder of what we would like every student to pack in their lunches:

  • Two sandwiches with only meat inside them. The bread can be either white or wheat, but please don't put cheese or other condiments on the sandwich.
  • Two hard-boiled eggs- please make sure that they are thoroughly boiled.
  • One small bag of chips
  • One piece of fruit like an orange or apple (NO bananas)
  • Two or three cookies, or a small candy bar
  • One small water or juice box
  • One paper napkin
Thank you so much for your help!
