June 3, 2021

Dear SPC Families,

Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes for Father Britto's special Mass of Thanksgiving on Wednesday. Not only was it beautiful that we could all pray together in the church but to do so on a day where we honored the amazing service and ministry of Father Britto made it extra special. I hope you all can see (in-person) the painting of St. Paul of the Cross that was commissioned in honor of Father Britto soon!

MORE NEW TEACHER BIOS!

ELA Teacher
Mrs. Kelly Scott (Grades 7-8)
I was born and raised in the Quad Cities and always felt like there was something bigger for me elsewhere. After graduating from Northern Illinois with a B.A. in English and studying education at North Central College in Naperville, I continued migrating eastward and landed in the Big City. I taught reading and language arts to middle school students for CPS for four years and loved sharing my enthusiasm for reading and writing with them. While at CPS, I have been involved in leadership roles, implementing reading interventions for students, and of course, learning and developing my craft along the way.

Through my time at CPS, I have gained a diverse knowledge of what it means to be part of a major city and a small community. I joined Queen of Angels in 2017, and in an effort to give back to my own neighborhood, I have led my students in charitable fundraising for various causes. It is so rewarding to support my students' passions and ideas and watch them flourish!

My goal is to instill a love of reading and expressing oneself through writing. To do this, I create a welcoming and positive environment with many opportunities to read, write, share and celebrate our efforts. I am looking forward to joining the community and teaching the middle school students ELA at St. Paul of the Cross!

Kindergarten Teacher
Mrs. Elizabeth Rabinak
After many years of teaching at Queen of Angels School in Chicago, I am delighted to continue my service to children and families at St. Paul of the Cross. I have worn many hats since I began in 2005, including teaching preschool, second grade, and third grade, as well as coordinating the extended care and camp programs at the school. I had a brief experience as an assistant principal, but my heart truly belongs in the classroom! Currently, I have my B.A. in Elementary Education but am playing the part of student right now and taking courses towards a Masters in Early Childhood Education.

As a teacher, I endeavor to bring positive, rich experiences to children and work to ignite a true love of learning. I have two young boys at home that remind me every day how splendid and special childhood is. I am a terrible gardener but enjoy it heartily and find the same applies to my cooking. Thankfully I am an adept teacher, and my husband can cook, so it all works out.

My favorite school memories include May Crowning masses in the spring and small moments of joy with my students. I am so looking forward to creating new memories at St. Paul of the Cross.

HOME & SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

End of Year Faculty Gift Fund

The Home and School Association is pleased to sponsor The End of the Year Faculty Gift Fund. This is a convenient way for parents to give end of the year gifts to all of their children’s teachers and the staff at our school. Your contribution will provide a monetary gift to all teachers (homeroom, practical fine arts, and resources), aides, the principal, assistant Principal, administrative assistants, school secretaries, and the maintenance staff.

Our teachers have worked so hard this year and have remained resilient, kept our children engaged in the classroom and most importantly safe. We are so grateful for each and every one of them!

Last year contributions averaged $80 per family. However, we encourage you to give at your comfort level. We also realize families make financial sacrifices to send their children to Catholic school so please give at the level that works for your family. Any amount is appreciated.

Please make your contribution online at: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=MDQ5GD5XBTYN4&source=url

You can also send in a check in an envelope labeled End of Year Faculty Gift Fund to the office. Please make your check payable to “Saint Paul of the Cross Home and School Association”.

All contributions need to be turned in by Friday, June 4th and gifts will be dispersed the last week of school.

Shelly the Turtle Needs a New Home!
Turtle Cartoon

Shelly, the classroom turtle from Mrs. Stypka's science lab, has been living in Mrs. Stypka's house since Covid. Previously, Shelly had lead an enjoyable life as the classroom pet, sometimes swimming in her tank and sometimes walking among the students in class. Mrs. Stypka is moving on to new adventures, and so must Shelly.

Shelly, a female, is red-eared slider, a species native to Illinois, the size of the diameter of a dinner plate, and needs to have adequate space to swim and roam. Shelly's diet consists of dried turtle food of various types. Shelly loves to bask in the warmth of the sun (or special heat lamp) and take long walks in the grass and shrubs.

Please let Mrs. Stypka know if you would like to consider taking Shelly. We can set up a Meet and Greet. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
