Dear SPC Families,

I am getting excited to see you all soon. By this time, I know you must have read the reopening plan and maybe even seen some of our preparations on the news! The teachers will return on August 17th, and slowly our school will be back to life! Please see below for some new updates.

UPDATE TO SPC ATHLETIC PROGRAM

Per the Archdiocesan directives, at this time, all athletic teams have been canceled until further notice. If anything changes for future seasons, we will let you know. While I know this news is disappointing, this is temporary, and we will be able to cheer our SPC Tigers in the future!

REMOTE LEARNING OPTION:

I am still waiting on final details from the Archdiocese for remote learning. At this time, this is what I know. For those families that have selected this option (registration below), we will be in touch with more details as soon as they become available.

Families who wish to continue to be enrolled at SPC and the Office of Catholic School Remote Learning Program should complete the registration form below. At the moment, the details available are as follows:

  • The cost of the program is SPC tuition.
  • Remote learning is available K-8.
  • SPC will provide students with a chrome book to complete the remote learning option.
  • The curriculum will be aligned to OCS standards and benchmarks but may NOT mirror the SPC curriculum specifically. However, SPC does use the OCS benchmarks and priority standards in planning our curriculum.
  • If a family enrolls by August 12th, classes will begin September 8th; if enrolled by September 11th, classes begin September 28th. It is important to note that those who elect Remote Learning will not start on SPC's start date).
  • CLICK HERE TO REGISTER YOUR CHILD FOR THE OCS REMOTE LEARNING COURSES.  You will receive more information to login at a later date.
  • Your child will be assigned a homeroom teacher for the year.
  • If you select his option you must sign up for a trimester at a time, should you wish to return to SPC for the 2nd trimester you are free to do so,
  • The courses are literacy, math, science, social studies and enrichment – STEM, movement, SEL, etc.
  • SPC will provide religion course work.
  • SPC will be using Catapult, the 3rd party provider from the Archdiocese, for remote learning.
  • Homeroom teachers will check in with students who are remote learning a few times a week.

WHY ISN´T SPC PROVIDING REMOTE LEARNING BY SPC TEACHERS?

In the event of a full return to remote learning, SPC teachers will be providing remote learning per our reopening plan.

Please understand that I fully support that families have different circumstances that will guide their difficult decision on what is best for their family. However, I have made the decision to have teachers concentrate their efforts on in-person instruction. Given everything (included in the plan) that will be required of our teachers, they must devote their entire energy to the reopening plan. To divide their efforts between the logistics of in-person learning and managing the complexities of remote learning/live streaming from a classroom is not something that I am willing to ask of my teachers. Thank you for your understanding.

Peace,

Dr. Erika Mickelburgh
