*New! Snuggly Merino wool mittens for winter, knitted in patterns inspired by traditional Swedish motifs.

Two layer 100% Merino mittens made in Sweden by Öjbro Vantfabrik. Mittens are warmer than gloves! These gloves are knit in a double layer of 100% merino wool, giving extra warmth while retaining flexibility. Dyed in subtle natural colours and  wonderfully cosy for those chilly winter walks.

Öjbro Vantfabrik is dedicated to preserving and sharing Swedish knitting heritage. Exactly how long mittens have been knitted in Scandinavia is unclear, but there are preserved mitten fragments dating back to as early as the 13th century. Each pair of beautiful jacquard knit Öjbro mittens features a design drawn from traditional patterns and personal stories.

The Lycksele pattern is inspired by the traditional weaving technique 'Västerbotten-drällen', the striped patterns used by the Sami people, and the Öjbro family's history in the town of Lycksele. This design is also available in handwarmers, Merino sockskneehigh socksbeanie, small blanket 90x130cm, and a throw blanket 130x200cm. See below to read the Lycksele story.

Colour: Lycksele

One size: 7-9. 26cm length x 10.5cm width.

Care: Handwash using a gentle wool shampoo recommended for best results. To machine wash, choose a cold wool cycle, skipping the spin cycle. Dry flat on a towel, gently reshaping while wet. Do not tumble dry. Wool feels comfortable and dry, even when you sweat. It can absorb a lot of moisture (up to 33% of its dry weight). Air between uses, wash only when required.

The story of the Lycksele pattern: Designer Åse Öjbro, founder of Öjbro Vantfabrik, has created this pattern with inspiration from Sami culture and the city of Lycksele's history.

In the words of Åse Öjbro: "When creating the pattern Lycksele, I was inspired by the traditional weaving technique 'Västerbotten-drällen'. I wanted to include a Sami connection, which resulted in Sami-inspired stripes in the pattern. It's been a joy to create this pattern, especially in combination with Öjbro's family history."

Until the 1600s, there were no established townships in Southern Lapland. In 1607, King Charles IX designated the site of Öhn (present-day Gammplatsen) as a church and market place in Southern Lapland. Lycksele celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2007. Lycksele was granted town rights in 1946, becoming the first town in Lapland. The city is called "Lappstockholm" and markets itself as "the city of Lapland" to emphasize its historical role as Lapland's first city and an early, important meeting place.

The Sami are an ethnic minority originating from Norway, Sweden, and Finland. The Sami Parliament, a parliament in which Sami people have the right to vote, was recognized and established by the government in Norway in 1989, in Sweden in 1993, and in Finland in 1996.

The story of Sven Öjbro's house by Elisabet Lindgren, Lycksele:

"From "Joppe's," it wasn't a long walk to Sven Öjbro's timbered house. The house with rough logs originally came from the village of Ekorrsjö and was an inn/shooting lodge, built at the beginning of the 1900s. Here travelers, traders, fishermen, and hunters met on their journey upstream or downstream between Umeälven and Vindelälven to rest, eat, do business, or change horses.

When the obligatory markets in autumn and winter in Lycksele occurred, all the rooms of the inn were overcrowded. At the end of the 1800s, the house was timbered at this new location in Villarydsbacken and taken over by John Gustaf Johansson with his wife Berta Karolina. His wife, Berta Karolina, died in childbirth in 1901 when their only son, Sven, was born. He grew up and took the name Öjbro.

Many in Lycksele took new names at that time; locally, Öjbro means "crossing the bridge." Sven eventually inherited the house together with his wife Elma. He was a machinist at Hällforsen power station during the 1930s, and many remember his peculiar laugh — he kind of snorted gently through his nose when he laughed.

Elma, on the other hand, could be heard more widely. Not for nothing was she called "The horror of Villaryd" because of her very powerful voice, and she could be heard calling her kids far and wide, saying, "Come in and eat!"

There were often renters in the house over the years. The hospitality function of the house remained in people's memories until well into the 1950s, and many spent the night at Sven Öjbro's on market weekends. After Elma's death in 1960 and his own retirement, Sven devoted himself to self-sustainability.

For a while, he kept a pig in the stable part of the farmhouse and grew potatoes on the slope down towards the road. Sven kept a close eye on when it was time to plant potatoes in early summer. I remember how he daily took the temperature of the Earth in the potato patch. He also did woodworking in the courtyard.

Early on Saturday mornings, the people of Villaryd could wake up to the sound of the woodcutter and Sven starting up: wiiiiiii, wiiiiiiii. It was a proper wake-up call, especially if you had been out the night before!"

Sven Öjbro died in 1981, and today the house stands along Affärsgatan at Gammplatsen, now converted into a general goods store.

GREAT 80v edger (but Kobalt users beware)
Size: 8" Edger Gen1, Size: 8" Edger Gen1
This Greenworks 80v edger is fantastic. I was surprised at how sturdy and rigid the shaft is - much more so than the very much more expensive Stihl Brushcutter I used for years. I like the adjustability of the blade depth and the power is impressive. You will get more run time with higher amp batteries - I have both 2.0 and 2.5 amp batteries, but if you have multiple batteries and chargers (from acquiring multiple tools) you will never be waiting for a battery to charge. If you have only purchased Greenworks tools, then you are golden. BUT HERE IS THE RUB IF YOU, LIKE ME, THOUGHT THEY WERE STRAIGHT-ACROSS COMPATIBLE WITH THE SAME LINE OF TOOLS THEY MANUFACTURED FOR LOWE'S UNDER THE KOBALT MONIKER AND BLUE COLOR, AS DIFFERENTIATED FROM THEIR STANDARD BRIGHT GREEN. One of the reasons I went ahead and committed to buying the Kobalt line of 80v yard tools was because Greenworks made them and I figured that it would be a long-lasting and stable design platform, being the same 80v system across two different brands. Then Lowe's dropped the 80v line. I was able to get a few more of their tools for great clearance prices and looked forward to switching over to the complete line of Greenworks 80v tools. was very happy to be able to order their edger because it's the exact same power system - just that all of my gear is Kobalt blue. AND HERE IS THE DEAL WITH THAT: They are different. The Kobalt 80v battery will not fit/slide into the Greenworks 80v battery compartment/housing (*as manufactured). - I guess I shouldn't have been surprised - and it could have been Lowe's that required that the stuff made for them specifically would be incompatible. But since it's the same power system, I wondered what the difference was and if I could work-around their obstructionist corporate bs. What I discovered was that the battery compartment on the tools have two long molded channel-guides (male) that match the two long molded (female) channels in the batteries. The vertical placement of the bottom 'rail' in the tool/compartment is positioned in a slightly different spot between the Kobalt and Greenworks 'brands'. But this actually works, because I just used a hand chisel and removed the 'bottom' rail from the Greenworks tool/edger. WA-LA - EUREKA!!! It worked great! It's a great fit, the top rail is more than enough to hold the battery stably in position and the 'lock' mechanism functions perfectly! I am looking forward to buying more tools in the Greenworks 80 volt line without having to replace all of the Kobalt tools I already paid for AND ESPECIALLY the rediculously expensive batteries...

Great product that makes edging very fast
Size: 8" Edger New
Edging was quite a job because I had to do it with a hand tool. I have quite a few Greenwork tools, so I decided to purchase the edger. It works great and I am in general happy with it. The three downsides for me are that tool is quite heavy when it also has the battery in it, that the metal blade decreases in size rapidly because of the friction when edging near concrete, and that the wheel is in such a position that I have to bend substantially while the blade does not edge deep enough so that I have to lean the tool on the metal strip at the bottom of the tool.

Plenty of power. Easy to use.
Size: 8" Edger New
I was amazed at the power of this edger. Due to health issues we couldn’t give our lawn adequate attention. It hadn’t been edged in over a year. This edger cut thru the heavy overgrown grass. Maintaining the edging now is a breeze. It uses the same 80 volt battery as my blower👍. The only negative is there is no edge guide, but once I got used to it, it’s not really needed.
