The 2017 SPC Walkathon took place on Friday, September 29th, and it was a remarkable day. A very special thanks to the Home and School Association, the co-chairs, Eileen McManus and Nicole O’Connor, our parent volunteers, students, faculty, staff, and administration for the outstanding efforts put forth to raise pledges for the 2017 Walkathon. We are sincerely grateful to all of the donors for supporting our students in their mission.
The annual SPC Walkathon raises money for technology and educational needs. But this year, in the midst of the hurricanes, and the earthquake in Mexico City, pre-kindergarten teacher Mrs. Robin Gialanella had an idea. “We are so fortunate to be able to raise money for our school. It seems wrong that, at this time, when there are so many people who have nothing — they have lost their homes, they have no electricity, no food — that we don't do something to help these people."
As a result, this year's Walkathon, pledged to donate $5,000 to the hurricane relief efforts American Red Cross if students reached a goal of raising at least $45,000. On top of that, SPC is donating 10 percent of anything raised above $45,000.
At the all-school Walkathon wrap up pep assembly, the students flipped over the dollar amount, number by number, to announce the final results! $55,650 raised and $6,050 going to the hurricane relief efforts.
