In February, 2010, the students enjoyed a performance by the BOOM Troupe. This performance was coordinated by the Peaceable Kingdom Committee at SPC. The focus of the performance was bullying.
Topics covered in the performance were:
RECOGNIZING BULLYING WHAT IS BULLYING?
What seems like teasing is actually hurting the victim
THE 4 ROLES OF BULLYING: Bully, Victim, Supporter, & Bystander
THE MAIN TYPES OF BULLYING:
o Physical: hitting, pushing, fighting, etc.
o Verbal: name-calling, threatening, etc.
o Indirect: exclusion, rumors, etc.
o Cyber: email, text message, IM, etc.
o (Discussion of the effects of each type)
EMPOWERING CHANGE
VICTIMS
o Why and how victims are chosen
o Strategies for bystanders/victims: examples, role-playing
o Fight back, act cool
o Escape, distract
o Seek help
POWER OF THE BYSTANDER
o Creating a school culture that does not tolerate Bullying
