RESOURCE PROGRAM
Students visit the resource room to receive additional support in the curriculum areas, primarily reading and math. A multi-sensory approach is used whenever possible. Two programs that have been used with much success are Earobics and SLANT. The links will provide additional information on these programs.
In the Upper Grade Center, Mrs. Stephens and Mrs. Widmaier provide resource classes in math and language arts respectively. The Resource program offers small group attention, extra drill, and a multisensory approach to learning.
The reading program emphasizes the five major components of reading: vocabulary, fluency, phonics, phonemic awareness, and comprehension. A weekly fluency test is administered to chart reading growth. Important areas such as background knowledge, text variables, and motivation are monitored to meet each individual's optimal learning level.
The English program includes daily journal entries so students are comfortable with expressing themselves in a written format. Visual thinking techniques are used so students can easily organize their thoughts.
ASSESSMENT
DIBELS will be used to assess basic literacy skills. It will be administered three times during the school year to all K-3 students. Testing will take place during the first two weeks of September.
