Mrs. Kathleen Jacobs
During January, First Grade Science students learned about force and motion. They experimented with pinwheels, slinkys, and magnets. They learned about simple machines and each science team made an invention that incorporated one or more simple machines.

February 5, 2010 was a day first-graders had been looking forward to with great anticipation. It was the 100th day of school. Instead of regular classes, students spent the morning doing 100 Day math, science and language arts.

First-graders did 100 Day Science in Mrs. Jacobs’ room. They estimated which line of masking tape was 100 inches long; which row of connecting cubes contained 100 cubes and which of three jars held 100 beans. Afterwards we saw how much popcorn 100 kernels of corn would pop.
Each first-grader brought in 100 things to count. Some children brought 100 treats to share.
