Prekindergarten

Children are introduced to many concepts throughout the school year.

Areas of focus include:

  • social/emotional development
  • listening and speaking skills
  • gross and fine motor skills
  • self-reliance skills
  • cognitive development

Key concepts include:

  • expressing feelings appropriately
  • counting and recognizing numbers
  • recognizing the alphabet and producing letter sounds
  • printing first name
  • coloring
  • cutting
  • gluing

The daily schedule includes both self-directed and teacher-directed experiences.  Teacher directed instruction takes place through stories, music, and projects completed in small group settings.  Fine motor skills are developed and strengthened through cutting, pasting, playing with manipulatives, and a variety of other activities.  Each child’s self-reliance and independence skills are worked on throughout the year.  Students are introduced to the Catholic Faith through songs, prayers and Bible Stories.  We always look for and applaud each child’s individual accomplishments both great and small.
